Zach Braff (Dr. John Dorian AKA JD)
Zach Braff was born in 1975 in New Jersey. His father was a trial attorney and sociology professor and his mother a clinical psychologist. They divorced and remarried while Braff was still a child. At the age of 10, Braff was diagnosed with Obsessive-Complusive Disorder. In high school, he worked in his school's television station. Braff later graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts in Film.
Braff began his acting career in stage productions in New York. He then appeared in the movie Manhattan Murder Mystery in 1993. In 2001, he began his role as Dr. John Dorian (J.D.) in Scrubs. He has received 3 Golden Globe nominations and one Emmy nomination for this role. In 2004, Braff starred in the movie Garden State, which he also wrote and directed. He received a Grammy for "Best Compilation Soundtrack For A Motion Picture" for this movie. Braff played the voice of Chicken Little in the movie Chicken Little and also played one of the voices on the video game Kingdom Hearts II. Braff has also directed some music video's, such as Gavin DeGraw's Chariot and Joshua Radin's Closer.
Braff is close friends with Lauryn Hill, who attended his Bar Mitzvah in 1988. He dated Bonnie Sommerville around the time of the filming of his movie Garden State. From 2004-2006 Mandy Moore and Braff dated. There were rumors of an engagement, but they were denied by both. Braff began dating Shiri Appleby in June of 2007.
