Sarah Chalke was born in 1976 in Ontario, Candada. She is the middle of 3 daughters. Her mother is from Germany, and Sarah attended German school twice a week growing up. She speaks fluent German and French. Chalke's father is a lawyer and their family has an adoption agency that places children (primarily from China) with Canadian families.
Chalke began acting in musicals at the age of 8. When she was 12, she became a reporter on KidZone, a Canadian children's show. Chalke took over the role of Becky Conner in Roseanne in 1993, and in 1994 she was in Ernest Goes To School. She has appeared in various other movies and shows, but her biggest role is that of Dr. Elliot Reed on Scrubs, which began in 2001.
Sarah Chalke and Jamie Afifi began dating in 2003. They got engaged in Hawaii at the end of 2006.
